Hi everyone,
If you're here, I believe you must have heard my music at least once and maybe are curious what else there is to say. I've always wanted it to explain what I can't articulate, or maybe to stop me having to talk in the first place, but it just so happens that the more you share, the more you crave to communicate, so I’m happy to sneak in your email from time to time. I'm too often a coward though, so if this is the last message you get from me, I apologise. I used to be really good at keeping a Tumblr online diary years ago, but then I realised it wasn't private anymore (not that it ever was). It may also be that the Polish winter will take me away so I grow more and more layers...
…but for now I’m happy to escape to Antwerp tomorrow to play on a line-up with my beloved friend, Adela Mede who released a beautiful album this month, Ne Lépj a Virágra. The concert will take place on November 26 in Trix and is a celebration of new Safe Ground compilation coming out the same day. My track for it, Ruin the Ruins, is already out, so feel invited to listen.
Then next week I’m off to New York, where I'll be sharing the stage with amazing Raphael Rogiński at Lincoln Center on 1 December as part of the Unsound festival. It will be my first time in the US, so I can't wait to experience this mysterious jet lag, although a good bagel with cream cheese is also high on the list.
In case you missed it:
✧ I’ve released an EP on Stroom this month called Diaries Beneath Fragile Glass. It’s a four-track album I’ve recorded during my stay in Finland this February, where I searched for what lies beneath the frozen shell of the city. I lived up on a hill where it was so piercingly quiet, and I'll never forget the streets so empty, covered in plush white. I hoped the record would capture the feelings and atmosphere that accompanied me during those long, lonely days.
✧ More importantly, I can't express enough how heartbroken and helpless I feel watching what has been happening in Gaza every day for over a month now. I am eternally grateful to Dania from Paralaxe Editions for putting together the For Palestine compilation and I am more than honoured to be able to contribute to it. We've already raised around nine thousand euros, which has been sent to Médecins Sans Frontières, who currently have doctors and staff on the ground in Gaza, actively working to treat patients and get desperately needed supplies across the border. You can still help by buying the album on Bandcamp.
Last but not least, I haven't even started my AOTY list yet, as I'm still waiting for some of the year's last pearls to arrive, but in the meantime, feel free to dive into my 2023 listens playlist - a somewhat chaotic and short, but important to me, list of tracks that I couldn’t imagine this year without.
Kiss,
M
